"A show of hands from those in this audience of one."

NAME:
→ Disintegration Alchemy

TYPE:
→ Alchemy: Molecular Interconnection

LEVEL:
→ One.

FORM:
→ The transmutation circle is printed onto various skintight pairs of disposable nylon surgery gloves that Rawls carries around in a little box, as not to contaminate artifacts with his fingerprints.

...........................................................................

BRIEFING:
→ Alchemy is founded as a science with three basic stages. Comprehension, deconstruction, and reconstruction. The rogue Ishvallan alchemist scar once utilised half a transmutation circle that stopped at the deconstruction process; Dr. Rawls' alchemical specialty works on a similar principle albeit of a less violent method.

Silicon makes up for an oddly large amount of all solid matter in the world. Sand, glass, some rocks, and his specialty: soil and dirt. Rawls' alchemy simply focuses on the bonds between silicon molecules and disconnects them, causing things to simply fall apart. The basic principle here is that: but within it lies two restrictions.

First, all targets must be of a solid form. Silicon compounds are not usually liquid or oxygen, but this restriction is still in place, by the restrictions of the transmutation circles.

Finally, any silicon-based chemical compounds disintegrated will leave behind disconnected remnants of the other molecules in the compound; for instance silicon dioxide (silica) will break apart and leave behind the two oxygen molecules, adding more oxygen to the atmosphere.

Rawls' alchemy, specifically, focuses on something which he works with in large amounts: dirt! Silt, soil, sand, whatever you want to call it; anywhere from 20% to, in some cases, up to 50% of natural dirt you find on the ground is silicon or silicon compounds. He breaks the bonds between them, thus disintegrating the silicon and breaking the structure of the dirt.

This may seem fairly useless at first: but for an archaeologist, it's a really useful and efficient technique. The amount of knowledge required to operate this alchemy is minimal; really just the restraints that the transmutation circle possesses, though Rawls recommends that one memorises the common makeup of most silicon-based compounds, just incase you happen upon an uncommon one, attempt to use the alchemy, and end up gassing yourself or something stupid.

SPECIAL ABILITIES:

Improvised Shovel (Disintegration Alchemy) - Simply enough, utilising the Disintegration Alchemy branch, Dr. Rawls can cause a large variety of compacted soil or sand to fall apart and turn into an easily disposed-of fine powder. Most soil is high in silicon compounds, and by utilising this alchemy for archaeological purposes, Rawls can highly speed up an excavation effort.

Two restrictions are in place: first off, the alchemy will require more time to disintegrate more-compacted dirt.

Second off, the alchemy is limited to disintegrating a kilogram of soil every ten seconds, with an overall radial limit of two metres from the epicentre of the transmutation. This seems to be a natural limit of the transmutation from the direction of alchemy's energies, but does help in that Rawls doesn't always cause the whole dig site to fall apart. It can be specialised in certain areas and shapes, which is wonderful for Tammy - he can make her sandpits en masse whenever she wants. His back garden is filled with them.
