DESCRIPTION:
→ Elias has a very normal (yet formal) appearance. His skin is lightly tanned, and he has a fairly average build along with his average height and weight. He is not muscley, but he is a bit stronger than he looks. His brown hair is almost long enough to cover his ears. He likes to keep his hair combed neatly, parting it on his right side. His eyes are a deep shade of blue, which hide behind a pair of glasses with thin black frames. He tends to have a distant stare as if he's try to see through something or observing something at a great distance. Some may say that he often looks distracted or unfocussed (which is not usually the case). When he does give others their due eye contact, he can convey a large range of emotion and attitude, but usually gives others a sense of calmness. Elias has a certain style of dress that he deems "proper". You'd never see him wear anything less than semi-casual. He typically wears a long coat over a button-up shirt, a tie, and dress pants. He speaks with a modulated voice, and rarely stutters. His movements are calculated yet flowing. He is always calm and collected when things go as expected, but can lose it completely when taken by surprise.




PERSONALITY:
→ Elias has grown up in a world of class and a "proper" way of life. Among his paramount views is order and organization. He spends maybe a little too much time cleaning and filing things. As a child, he would even help out the maid and butler do the chores. He also believes in using everything in the way is was designed to be used. The walls of a building are for holding a roof over your head and providing security from the outside, NOT for graffiti art. Elias has also developed a belief in respect for one's authorities and elders. This is a lesson taught to him by his father and grandfather, which Elias takes with him to the military. Not only does he beleive in these things, he EXPECTS them from others. He will praise those who are organized or respectful, and he will also reprimand those who are not (so far as he does not disrespect his own superiors). He is also a BIG fan of rules. Rules were made to be followed. Elias will ordinarily seek punishment for those who break even the smallest rules.

Elias is also a scholar. He has read a large number of books, ranging from fiction to academic. He has a rich educational background, and will use any spare time he can find to reading a good novel or pursuing his studies in alchemy. When it comes to academics and scholarship, Elias can come off as a bit arrogant. He has a strong tendancy to correlate the wealth of his knowledge to the wealth of his family.

Elias is typically the calm, peaceful sort of guy who is not looking to make any trouble. But avoiding trouble isn't always at the front of his mind when it comes to trying to maintain order (acting like a hall monitor everywhere he goes). He is a very calculating person, but often forgets to take into account how others will react to his actions. As long as he has a large degree of control over what he thinks he has control over, he operates perfectly and things will typically go the way he wants. When others aren't cooperating, he can get frustrated and lose his usually-calm composure.

HISTORY:
→ Elias was born and raised in West City, Amestris. Brought up in a lavish home where there was always a high level of financial security, he had always worn the best clothes, eaten the best food, been educated by the best teachers, and sat in the best seats for various events (sports, operas, etc), among other luxuries. He was able to live this lifestyle because his grandfather, Michael Bechtel, owns the largest wool business in Amestris, and Elias's father, Lukas Bechtel, is Vice President of the same business. It is a family business that started with Elias's great-great-grandfather, Thomas Bechtel. Being the first-born of his father, Elias is promised a high position in the business as soon as he completes at least 5 years of Amestrian military service, a tradition of the family business from its beginnings.

Elias was the first-born child of Lukas and Karolin Bechtel. And two years later, they had a daughter, named Naomi. It became quite clear at an early age, both children were very quick at learning, and having some of the best private tutors, developed a thirst for scholarly pursuits. Elias and Naomi became avid readers and even held their own book club meetings, just between the two of them. They also became learned in history, math, and a couple foreign languages. And they also learned music, recieving vocal training and learning to play piano among other instruments.

Elias childhood social life was mostly limited to his family, but had also become acquainted with several families who worked in his family's wool business. There were also some few instances where Elias would travel with his father to Creta and the southern portions of Drachma, making a vacation out of a business trip. These trips helped Elias strengthen his skills in those languages respective to those regions.

When Elias was 12, he expressed an interest in alchemy, having already read a couple books on the subject. His parents were hesitant at first, but decided it would be alright to hire a private tutor in alchemy. From this point on, Elias would spend most of his time learning the ways of alchemy. Naomi would also join Elias in his alchemical studies. Reaching into their teen years, Elias and Naomi became intellectual rivals, challenging each other to better themselves. When it came time for Elias to serve in the military, he initially attempted to join through the State Alchemist program, but did not advance beyond the written test.

Failing to become a State Alchemist, and not wanting to put off the family tradition of military service, he decided to enlist at the age of 17 in March of 2010. Three years into his service, Elias has made some progress in promotions through the E-ranks. He had been happily serving, having developed a strong affinity to the military's sense of orderliness. But he still looks forward to the day when he completes his commitment in just two more years. Then, he can return to his family and take his rightful place in the business.

→ He has read over 200 novels and over 50 academic textbooks, cover to cover.
→ At a very young age, he stepped on a frog, which led to a recurrent nightmare about the ghost of the frog haunting him and seeking revenge. To this day, he cannot stand the sight of a frog.

If Elias is planning on being an alchemist, you'll need to create an alchemy app. You'll also need an "OFFICIAL TITLE", which is your Alchemy Title. It usually relates to the type of Alchemy he's doing. I've added the "Official Title" to the bottom portion of your app. Add in a title (and make the alchemy app) and Elias will be all set for approval! ^^
